COUPLED CFD AND RESPONSE SURFACE METHOD FOR FLOW FIELD OPTIMIZATION OF AIR-JET SNOW REMOVAL DEVICE
ABSTRACT
In circumstances where precipitation and subsequent accumulations of ice lead to road closures, which can severely disrupt daily mobility, the efficacy of mechanical de-icing methods is of paramount importance. Conventional de-icing techniques, which employ specialized tools such as blades and scrapers, can cause damage to the road surface, thereby increasing the cost of subsequent maintenance. This study proposes a novel approach involving the use of a cutting-edge, non-contact air-powered de-icing system, which has been shown to enhance efficiency and reduce damage to the road surface. To investigate the impact of different installation angles on the distribution of snow particles under different de-icing conditions, a numerical model was developed using the FLUENT software. The findings of this study suggest that when the angle of incidence is set to 30°-40°, the air-flow can effectively remove surface snow. A response surface methodology was established to analyze the interactions between key geometric para-meters and determine the optimal snow removal performance configuration. This research provides a theoretical foundation for the application of air-powered de-icing technology, contributing to the development of environmentally-friendly de-icing equipment.
